专利摘要:
Method for the conservation of medicinal plants intended to be presented in bags of non-porous material comprising a step of making a vacuum in the bag, and therefore elimination of oxygen, and injection into the interior of nitrogen creating an inert atmosphere within the bag. The elimination of oxygen prevents the development of aerobic organisms and the introduction of nitrogen prevents the passage of external contaminants inside, thereby ensuring a more durable conservation of medicinal plants, an improvement in their external appearance and presentation. Method for the conservation of medicinal plants Obieto of the invention
The object of the present invention is a novel method to improve the preservation and presentation of medicinal plants that are packaged in plastic bags by introducing into said bags of nitrogen gas.
Background of the invention
The use of certain plants as therapeutic elements in the treatment of different physical and mental diseases are well known in the state of the art. It is also well known that only certain parts of medicinal plants, such as leaves, have therapeutic effects since it is these parts that contain the active substances.
Medicinal plants can be used, among other ways, in infusions or in poultices applied to the skin and for this purpose they are usually presented crushed or with whole leaves.
Traditionally the distribution and marketing was carried out in bulk and the only process to increase the duration of the active ingredients and their organoleptic properties was to dry them by any of the known methods, for example sun drying or by hot air stream.
The inventor, in document ES 2 107 389, proposed a method for preserving vacuum-packed medicinal plants that meant a great advance in the preservation of its active ingredients and organoleptic properties.
The present invention describes a procedure that increases the period of time in which the medicinal plant once bagged retains its active ingredients and its organoleptic properties and, in addition, improves the visual appearance of the bags.

The method for the conservation of medicinal plants object of the present invention comprises the following steps:
to. Harvest of medicinal plants in adequate time and form.
b. Selection of the predetermined parts of the medicinal plants that contain the desired active ingredients.
C. Washing of the predetermined parts of the medicinal plants.
d. Drying of parts of medicinal plants up to a predetermined percentage of humidity.
and. Homogenization and mixing in vibrating hopper.
F. Dosing and bagging in bags of water and gas impermeable material.
g. Vacuum generation in the bag.
h. Injection into the bag of an inert gas.
i. Bag closure.
Preferred Embodiment of the Invention
A preferred embodiment of the method for the preservation of medicinal plants, object of the present invention, comprises the following steps:
a) Harvest of medicinal plants in the time and manner indicated.
b) Selection of the predetermined parts of the medicinal plants that contain the active ingredients that can be carried out manually or by appropriate machines existing in the market.
c) Washing of medicinal plants to remove dirt, foreign bodies and substances from environmental contamination or those used during cultivation such as insecticides.
d) Desiccation of medicinal plants, up to a predetermined percentage of humidity, by any of the traditional methods, sun dried, or automated, among others, by homos or air flow.
e) Homogenization and mixing in a vibrating hopper in which the different parts of the plant used or the different plants to be mixed are mixed.

f) Dosing of the predetermined quantity to be packed in bags, preferably of water and gas impermeable material to prevent the entry of moisture or external agents that may deteriorate medicinal plants.
g) Generation of vacuum to extract all the air inside the bag, which removes oxygen and thereby prevents the development of aerobic organisms, such as insects, microorganisms, etc., which could contaminate medicinal plants .
h) Injection of an inert gas, preferably nitrogen, with the aim of equalizing the pressures inside and outside the bag and preventing possible small oxygen and moisture ingress from outside, which will occur if there is a pressure difference inside and out of the bag and would harm medicinal plants. Being an inert gas, an atmosphere is created, also inert, inside the bag, which prevents reactions with the active ingredients or with the remaining components of the medicinal plants, preventing the concentration and effectiveness of these principles from decreasing. active, as well as, the organoleptic properties deteriorate, thus achieving, in addition, a prolonged conservation of medicinal plants, an improvement in the appearance and presentation of the product. That is to say, when the packaging is carried out only in a vacuum, the oxygen contained in the ambient air, due to the outside atmospheric pressure, can slowly penetrate the bag, through the small pores of the plastic, which, in addition to losing effectiveness, gives the bag an ugly and wrinkled appearance and therefore, an unattractive presentation. This indicates that vacuum-only packaging is a much less effective method and is surpassed by the method proposed in the invention, when packaging medicinal plants in an inert atmosphere. In the packaging method proposed in the invention it is important that in addition to the absence of oxygen, there is also absence of moisture, to prevent anaerobic organisms from developing. Hence the importance also of the inert atmosphere.
i) Closing the bag by any of the known procedures, for example by teflon reinforced thermosolders.
Therefore, this method of packaging in an inert atmosphere provides the following advantages, essential to maintain the guarantee of medicinal plants:
Quality: as soon as they are perfectly selected and contrasted Medicinal Plants.
Safety: as long as it is maintained over time, due to the "vacuum conservation in an inert atmosphere", its therapeutic properties, its pharmacological action and its organoleptic characteristics. In addition to ensuring its expiration date.
5 Efficacy: medicinal plants, as living beings that they are, deteriorate over time and lose effectiveness, but are protected from external agents, through their preservation through vacuum packaging in an inert atmosphere, which keep them in the established time , with the same efficiency, always the same and constant.
